One of Chen Yifei’s oil paintings works?“Focusing” auction in the first arts auction in newly established Shanghai Longda’s at the first time, which causes people to concern Chen Yifei’s oil painting market again.
“Focusing” finds the view in girl’s embroidering floor of old bureaucrats. The woman, who arranges her hair before the window and sees her image fair in the mirror in the painting, looks familiar to people. From this, we can know that the painter has put a general feeling to this work and create it into a masterpiece. Some experts calculate this masterpiece in more than 10 million yuan.
Recalling the spring arts auction, Chen Yifei’s works are one of people’s focuses. In Chinese Guardian Spring Auction, Chen Yifei’s fame work in his 25 years old--“Ode to the Yellow River” attracted many buyers. This oil painting, 297cm length and 143.5cm width, was created in 1972, which was the first independent creation of a huge wide-screen painting in Chen Yifei’s early fame works. After several rounds of bidding, “Ode to the Yellow River” was sold on 40.32 million. This price not only is the highest price of all of Chen Yifei’s works, but also set the highest price record of mainland oil painting, just behind Xu Beihong’s “Put down your whip”.
Some information show that the "Ode to the Yellow River" sold on 1.28 million HK$ in Sotheby's in Hong Kong in 1995, by contrast, this sold for 40.32 million yuan rose by more than 30 times of 1995.
Chen Yifei is the contemporary oil painter, who was graduated from Shanghai Art College. He created “Ode to the Yellow River” and “Occupy Presidential Palace” etc famous oil painting in 1960s and 1970s. In 1980, he went to America to study and focus on oil painting research and creation of Chinese subjects. After years of hard working, he had made remarkable achievements and become a famous Chinese painter at home and abroad. In 1984, he found the view in Zhou Zhuang and created the oil painting?“Memory of Hometown” was shown in the Hammer gallery, New York with his other 37 works. And when the host of the gallery?president of the Western oil companies in the United States--Armand • Hammer visited China in Nov, 1984, he give this work-“Memory of Hometown” to Chinese leader, Deng Xiaoping as a gift, which is all known in the world.
What worth of mentioning is that oil paintings of Chen Yifei have gained success at Christie’s, Sotheby, New York and Hong Kong, China etc auctions in the past more than 10 years. In 1991, Chen Yifei’s “Charm of Xunyang” sold on 1.37 million HK$ in Christie’s in Hong Kong, setting the highest record of Chinese oil painting; In later auction Chen Yifei’s works renewed many auctions record for many times: in 1997, his work “Poppy Flower” sold on 3.87 million HK$ in Christie’s, which surprises collectors from home and abroad.      It was introduced by experts that people divided Chen’s works into “Early red history subject”, “Water-town subject”, “Beauty subject” and “Tibet subject” etc major varieties in auction market.
From the trading record of Chen Yifei’s works, "Ode to the Yellow River" is the masterpiece of “Early red history subject”, so it can be sold in high price. The most attracting work is one on “Beauty subject”, such as works which sold in the highest price for many times, “Charm of Xunyang”, “Poppy Flower”, “Yu Tang Chun Nuan” and even “Focusing” in the upcoming auction.
What more interesting is that four of Chen’s limit works in a recent spring auction in Shanghai are all “Beauty subject”, except for “Woman in Kimono”, which sold on 88 thousand yuan, and the remaining three sold on 33 thousand yuan.
